Too Many Ideas, Not Enough Time!

Filed under: Developers, General, Todd Gillissie — Gillissie @ 2:52 am

It’s been almost three years since Space HoRSE was released, and I still haven’t finished a follow-up game. It’s not that I haven’t had any ideas - actually, I think I’ve had too many. I must have started on 5 different game projects in the last three years. I usually get pretty far into developing the basic technology required to do stuff, but then I realize that all of this technology alone isn’t turning out to be very fun to play. So, I end up going back to the drawing board.

You see, most people (especially retail developers) would try to force an idea to work, no matter how un-fun it turns out to be. Personally, I’d rather dump a dead-end game than continue to spend more time on it, only to find out that nobody else thinks it’s fun too. To be honest, I’ve never totally dumped an idea. I keep them around, thinking that maybe someday I’ll come up with an idea that will make them fun.

I am currently working on another idea that I think has the most legs yet. I’m not sure how big the target audience is for my new game, but the primary reason I’m developing it is because it is the kind of game that I would like to play myself. If it turns out that lots of other people like playing it as well, then that’s icing on the cake!

More info will follow as I make more progress.

  1. I’d just like to say what a fun game space horse was. Good luck with your next game.

Is there any other reason ?

BTW burninating rules, at least for a while. Hope there will be burninating in your new project.

  3. Are you Todd from Redford? Because I am Jeff Hocking from Redford, and it would be cool if you knew who that was.
